Thousand of years ago when the Himalayas were being formed by the movement of the tectonic plates and extensive volcano took place in the North Western part of the the peninsular plateau as a result of which the western part of the plateau subsided. Sun the Indian Ocean advanced to occupy this depression and in this way the Arabian Sea was formed
